Getting Started

Let Our Next "Best Kitchen" Be Yours!

Cabinets2

You’ve probably got an idea of what you are looking for.  You’ve admired photos of homes online, in magazines or places you’ve visited.  You have a wish list based on your current and past homes.  The challenge is to find the right combination of products and services to fill your needs.  There are so many choices.

Where to Start?

1 - Visit our showroom.  We recommend that you check out the products and brands we offer in person.  When you can see, touch and feel the differences it will give you the best opportunity to compare.  Online photos can be misleading.  The differences in quality and construction impact the price.  Compare the warranties provided with your purchase, what it covers and for how long.  Your selections will represent a large investment in your home.  We want you to know what you are getting.

2 - Establish a budget.  How much do cabinets cost?  Is there a percentage to use for budgeting?  Is there a lineal foot price?  What is a realistic amount to plan on spending?  The worst thing you can do is base your budget on products that are of a lesser quality than you are expecting.  The feedback we get from many clients is that they thought the amount budgeted was based on what they wanted.  Too often they are disappointed with the quality of cabinets that was used for their budget and end up spending more than they planned.  You can’t determine what your budget should be until you know what the quality and style of cabinets that you want will cost.

We recommend that you start out with a budget amount for the complete project based on the following questions:

~ How long do you plan on living in your home?

~ Will the improvements add to the resale value of the property?

~ If not, are you doing this for your own benefit or pleasure and is the investment worth it to you?

Then based on the current value of your home vs. the improved value, decide what you want to spend, can afford and is supported by the value of your home.  Then it’s time to get a complete breakdown of all the proposed expenses to determine what type of cabinets you can afford.  The cabinet products we offer are available in good, better and best pricing and are affordable for most situations.

3 - Get an estimate. Make an appointment to receive a no obligation estimate.  We will go over your plans and make recommendations for the products that will be a good fit for your home.  It usually takes 1-2 hours to review, discuss and make preliminary selections.  Be sure to bring as much information about your project and environment as possible.  Bring photos and measurements of existing space or blue prints if available.  We will provide an estimate and a price range for budget purposes based on your preferences.  Please note this is not intended to be final pricing!

4 – Hire Us to Prepare A Design Plan.  It’s time to make a commitment.  A retainer fee and design agreement are required before any design work will be scheduled.  The retainer amount varies from $500 - $2,500 and is based on the scope of the project and the timeline needed.   This fee will be applied to your cabinet purchase.  This phase can take as little as a week and as long as several months depending on your decisions.

5 - The Design Process.  First, we will get to know you and your family’s needs and priorities.  We will create a layout and floor plan utilizing CAD software.  After review and discussion, we will refine the design until it is perfect for you.  There are no limits to edits.  We will keep working until it is exactly what works best for you, your family and your home.

Planning meetings take place at our showroom or online using a virtual meeting connection and can be scheduled at your convenience, days or evenings.  Much like the blueprints for your home, a kitchen and bath design plan will become the blueprint for your cabinets, appliances and fixtures.  It will detail the placement for your plumbing, electrical and HVAC.

Remember ~ The Design Plan is needed before your project can begin.  The design plan is also needed to finalize your budget.

6 - Placing your order.  All our cabinet products are built to order.  Upon your approval of the design plan your cabinet order is placed into production.  It takes approximately 4-6 weeks for the cabinets to be built and delivered to your job-site.

7 – Installation of your cabinets. We provide expert installation of all products we sell, or you can arrange for your own installation.  Many clients prefer us to install their cabinets, as it provides better accountability.  That way we can control how the cabinets are handled and warranty the workmanship as well.  Our goal is to schedule the installation as soon as your home is ready.

8 – Countertops. Your countertops must be measured after the cabinets are installed.  All cabinets must be level and your room ready.  Selections of colors, sinks, fixtures etc. must be finalized before the order can be placed.  This part of the project will take 3-6 weeks depending on availability of material and time of the year.

9 – Installation of appliances and finish plumbing.  This is usually one of the last things to be done and must be scheduled after the countertops are installed.  It is the final step so that you can take occupancy of your new space.  Elements such as backsplash tile and painting are the final touches but are not necessary for you to move in.
